License

Layout is free for 14 days from the first time you open it, with every feature. In the last 3 days, the Layout bar shows how many are left.

When the trial ends, Layout pauses the way Pause Layout does: every window comes back on screen, and your workspaces and settings stay as they are. Switching waits for a license key, and entering one resumes Layout.

Buy it on getlayout.app, or with Buy Layout… in Settings › License. It’s $19, paid once, for up to 2 Macs, with free lifetime updates.

During early access, until Layout 1.0, it costs $9.99. A license bought then stays valid after 1.0.

Polar handles the payment as the merchant of record: it charges your card, handles sales tax, and emails you the receipt with your key.

After the purchase, the page you land on shows your key. On a Mac where Layout is installed, Activate in Layout opens Settings › License with the key filled in: click Activate.

You can also enter it yourself: open Settings › License, paste the key, or the whole line of the receipt around it, and click Activate. Layout checks the key with Polar once, then keeps working offline.

Enter the same key on your second Mac. A key works on 2 Macs at a time.

Release the Mac you no longer use with Settings › License › Release…, then enter the key on the new one.

If that Mac is gone, release it from your customer portal: sign in with the email you bought with, and Polar sends you a code. Each Mac is listed under its name from Sharing settings. When Layout says a key is already active on 2 Macs, release one of them the same way.

  • Offline: Layout checks the key with Polar about once a week. Without a connection, it keeps working: a Mac with a license never locks for being offline.
  • Refunds: within 14 days of buying, no questions asked. Reply to your receipt from Polar, or write to support@getlayout.app. After a refund, or when a Mac is released from the customer portal, the next check removes the key from that Mac, and the end of the trial applies again.
  • Your key: it’s in the receipt email from Polar and in your customer portal.

What Layout sends to Polar, and when, is in Privacy.
